Welcome to the Highlands High Library!

Lunch Time Rules

The library is open at lunch for all students to come and enjoy! The library is a collaborative space where students can meet up with friends to work on homework, play a game, or just converse while eating their lunch.

Lunch Time Rules:

CLEAN YOUR TABLE: Students can eat their lunch in the library, but they must clean up after themselves.
BE KIND TO EACH OTHER: Students should keep their hands to themselves and treat others respectfully. The library is a safe and inclusive space where everyone should feel welcome and included. Bullying or violence will not be tolerated!
KEEP VOLUME DOWN: You do not have to whisper, but volume should be kept conversational. Shouting across the library creates a chaotic and unsafe environment.
ALWAYS WALK: Running is dangerous and adds chaos to the library space. If you want to run, please take yourself outside.

Violating the Rules:

Violations of the library rules at lunch time may result in a loss of lunch time access to the library.
Students will receive one warning and then if they continue to violate the rules will receive a one-day suspension from the library.
If on their return they continue to violate the rules they will be banned from the library for the next two days.
A further violation will result in a write-up, phone call home, and loss of lunch time access to the library for the next 5 days.

Library Lesson Rules

During library lessons the rules are slightly different than at lunch time.

Rules:

You should be listening attentively.
Cell phones should be off and away unless otherwise specified.
Remain seated at a table unless otherwise directed in a lesson.
Raise your hand to ask a question and tell me your name.

Participation in library lessons can earn you Minga points.

Violating Rules:

Warning by the librarian.
Another warning of behavior, with a change of seat or other necessary intervention to prevent the behavior from continuing.
Intervention by the teacher in accordance with their disciplinary policy.

Library Policies

Circulation (Check-Out) Policies:

Students can check out up to 5 books at a time.
Only 2 books checked out can be from the same series.
Only 2 books can be graphic novels or manga.
Books may be renewed one time before they must be returned. Students can check the book out again once it has been returned for at least 24 hours to allow for other students to get the book.
Treat books with respect. Do not throw or otherwise harm the books.

Lost or Damaged Books:

If you lose or damage your book, you will owe the cost of it's replacement.

Talk to the librarian to discuss payment options.

Books which are not paid for by graduation will prevent you from getting your diploma.

Returning Books:

Place books in the book return slot at the library desk once they are due.
